Day 1 - Journey to Niagara Falls, Canada
Hop aboard our couch coach as we take our armchair travelers to the ever popular Niagara Falls Canada! Don’t worry about your passport, no border stop on this trip!
Most popular as a summertime tourist destination Niagara Falls attracts over 20 million visitors a season young or old, newlyweds or families - taking a trip to see the natural wonder of Niagara Falls is on many a bucket list. Spanning the US & Canadian borders, Niagara Falls is made up of a group of three waterfalls. The largest and most recognizable of the three is Horseshoe Falls which straddles the international border.
At the end of the day’s journey is the reward of dinner at the iconic Skylon Tower. The revolving dining room gives diners a 360 degree view of the falls. Your eyes will feast on stunning views of both the American and Horseshoe Falls, and on a clear day, the skylines of Toronto and Buffalo can be seen. After dinner promenade over to Clifton Hill's world famous Street of Fun by the Falls. Here you can soar 175 feet above Niagara Fall and enjoy spectacular panoramic views on the SkyWheel. With gift shops, wax museums, haunted houses, video arcades, themed attractions and a midway there is plenty to do at Clifton Hills.
Day 2 - Up Close and Personal
Our guided tour of Niagara Falls by land takes us as close to the falls as we can get while staying on dry land. At Table Rock you can watch the thundering water rush over the brink of Horseshoe Fall as the mist sprays its admirers. A trip on the Whirlpool Aero Car, suspended from 6 sturdy cables, gives us an aerial view of the Niagara Whirlpool. The whirlpool is formed at the end of the rapids where the gorge turns abruptly counterclockwise and the river escapes through the narrowest channel in the gorge. This mesmerizing natural phenomenon is unforgettable!
A man made phenomenon and an engineering marvel to see is the Welland Canal. You can watch as the transport ships, some huge at 200 yards in length and weighing around 30,000 tons, are lifted and lowered through the locks in the canal.
There’s always time to stop and smell the flowers! The unique and stunning Floral Clock is not only a spectacle to view, it’s a working clock! The planted face is changed twice a year, summer and fall. The tower at the back of the clock houses Westminster chime that chime each quarter hour.
With an afternoon of freetime, exploring the Niagara Falls Botanical Gardens is an option. Visitors of the gardens are presented with 99 acres of beautifully maintained gardens, including their world famous rose garden featuring over 2,400 roses. Located on the botanical gardens grounds is the Butterfly Conservatory. This tropical paradise is home to thousands of vibrantly colored butterflies. Closer to home in Connecticut, visit the Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park which happens to be the 3rd largest rose garden in the country! The Butterfly Encounter at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford allows you to experience life science at its best with colorful butterflies in a tropical greenhouse
As if you haven’t been lucky enough to have spent the day amongst these natural wonders, you can spend the evening at Fallsview Casino and try your hand at lady luck! With plenty of restaurants, bars and entertainment, there will be ample to do at the casino. Or sit back and relax and people watch!
Day 3 - On the Water!
We’ve seen the falls from high up above and from ground level. Now time to don our plastic ponchos and board the Hornblower Cruise for a misty yet unforgettable experience. You’ll journey as close as possible to the magnificent falls in what is undoubtedly a must-do experience.
A visit to Peller Estates, the award-winning Niagara-on-the-lake winery, is a welcome calm after the thrill of the falls. For over 50 years this family owned vineyard has been producing their exceptional portfolio of wines, which you will have a chance to taste and experience. Not just anywhere can you descend into an underground barrel cellar and sample ice wine in a 10 below igloo-like lounge! Brrr! If this has you thinking of a vineyard visit, Connecticut is one of the fastest wine growing regions in the country.
Day 4 - Homeward Bound
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we check out and head for home. The journey leaves you with time to reflect on time spent at Niagara Falls. If you haven’t had enough of the falls, experience Niagara Falls through the eyes of Hollywood in the film noir, "Niagara" starring Marilyn Monroe. This 1953 box office hit filmed in technicolor uses Niagara Falls as an apt metaphor for the destructive power of out-of-control carnal and murderous obsessions. “Niagara Falls and Marilyn Monroe, the two most electrifying sights in the world!”
Until we can travel there together, we hope you enjoyed your armchair tour of Niagara Falls!
